December – Time: Time

A woman and a man, both wearing glasses and warm jackets, are sitting inside a restaurant window facing the outside world but both looking down on their phones. The glass is foggy and makes an interesting blur on their faces and reflects some streetlights from outside.

Time

How did we get here?
This clutter-filled space
where connection
has been replaced with tasks.

You asked me how I was,
and I said “busy” –
it would take too long
to tell you what is really
going on

And we would both
have to feel

It’s so much easier
to be doing than being

The hope-departed,
broken-hearted
sheltering in time

Bunkered in activity
we busily wait
for what once was
to return
